Death of Mrs Cameron Mouat

THE SATURDAY HERALD AND SHETLAND GAZETTE

Kirkwall, Saturday, August 12th 1871.

We much regret that an anonymous communication forwarded to this office with reference to what took place on the island of Bressay on the decease of this excellent lady was inadvertently inserted in our last issue. From information received yesterday, we learn that there was no unbecoming exhibition at Bressay, but on the contrary that there was an appropriate and marked expression of respect immediately paid to the memory of the deceased. In short, that the statement sent us was an entire misinterpretation of what took place. We may mention this is the first occasion on which an unauthenticated paragraph has found its way into our columns. – Ed. S.H.
