THE OWNERSHIP OF BRESSAY BY THE CAMERONS

After 1861 the Estate was managed by Major Thomas Mouat Cameron, who had employed John Walker as factor. After the ‘Uproar’ in September 1871 Major Cameron appears to have got ‘cold feet’ about John Walker’s tactics and passed the ownership of Bressay to his sister Miss Margaret Anne Cameron Mouat who lived at Gardie house in 1872. John Walker ceased to be factor for Bressay at this point which calmed the inflamed situation. Incidentally John Walker and his family left Bressay in late 1872 to live in Aberdeen.
